TURKS & CAICOS HISTORY

From sugar slaves to global tourism

SPORTS

TURKS & CAICOS

DEEP SEA FISHING
Deep sea fishing is very popular in these islands with many tournaments such as the annual Caicos Classic Release Tournament in Providenciales and the Heineken Game Fishing Tournament in Grand Turk. The top prize all year round is the blue marlin, in these waters, while the sailfish and white marlin only arrive between November and April. All the year you can catch barracuda and sharks, only during summer yellow fish and wahoo.

DIVING
A impressive reef 320 km long and 100 km wide, pierced by caves and caverns, with a multitude of wrecks of every age, faces north island and offers spectacular diving. It is mostly a national park.

The Columbus Passage between the two islands is the gate that allows the passage of whales during the winter, and of the turtles and races all the year round. In Providenciales there is one of the most challenging dives along Northwest Point Marine Park Wall, a vertical wall covered with colorful sponges and populated by fish, turtles and rays. Nice also diving in North Caicos, South Caicos, West Caicos and around Grand Turk (Grand Turk Wall spectacular) and Salt Cay.

TURKS & CAICOS: Provo Golf Club - Providenciales

GOLF
In Providenciales there is one of the most famous courses in the Caribbean, the Provo Golf Club, an 18-hole course opened in 1922 and signed by Karl Litten. On Grand Turk you will find the historic route of the Waterloo 9 holes, next to the Governor's House and to the Governors Beach.
