BVI Billfish Tournament

BVI Billfish Tournament

On behalf of the owners and staff of the Bitter End Yacht Club, I would like to extend an invitation for you to fish the 2012 BVI Billfish Tournament, July 30th – August 2nd. This all-release blue marlin tournament has uncomplicated rules, great food, an abundance of social activities and, most of all, great blue marlin fishing. No fish tales are necessary when it comes to Bill fishing in the BVI. In its inaugural year, 35 marlin were hooked over the course of three days. The fishing takes place at the North Drop, in an area ranging just 13-30 miles from Bitter End. Competitors take off early each morning, fish all day and return to the resort for virtual weigh in -- because it is a catch and release tournament, the fish stats are recorded at sea -- and evenings of relaxing social events, hosted by the event's sponsors, who also provide great prizes! This catch and release contest will take place at the North Drop, in an area ranging just 13 to 30 miles from Bitter End on Virgin Gorda. Competitors will spend the day casting out for prize-winning billfish in one of the best blue marlin fishing sites on the planet. Traditionally the BVI Billfish Tournament is held immediately after the St Thomas July Open. This year, we selected the July 30th – August 2nd dates because there are two full moons in August (August 3rd and 31st). Additionally, these dates provide adequate travel time for boats coming to the Virgin Islands from the States or other areas in the Caribbean. For those who might be joining us for the first time, the Bitter End Yacht Club is located on the picturesque North Sound of Virgin Gorda in the British Virgin Islands. The Bitter End is a world-class resort featuring accommodations with breathtaking views, excellent restaurants and a wide variety of amenities to make your time ashore relaxing and enjoyable. The Quarterdeck Marina was completely remodeled in 2011 and can accommodate yachts over 100 feet and a draft of 15 feet. Each slip features modern, state-of-the-art utilities. Bitter End is regularly hailed as one of the top full service resorts in the world. All boats participating in the 2012 BVI Billfish Tournament will receive a complimentary membership in the Quarterdeck Club (a $500 value). As an added bonus, those boats registering on or before March 31st will receive free dockage during the tournament (utilities not included). The Tournament size is limited to 20 boats, so early registration is strongly suggested. The BVI Billfish Tournament website provides a wealth of information that you can download, including angling rules, entry forms, and BVI customs and immigration clearance forms. If you prefer, you can register online. This is a great opportunity for you to join us for some great fishing and good times. You will quickly discover why many of the boats that fished the very first BVI Billfish Tournament in 2007 return to Bitter End each year.
