Almost in front of
Union Island lies Palm Island with its
area of 4,4 kmq. bordered by five
wonderful beaches. Its history is linked
to its discoverer John Caldwell who,
together with his wife Mary, reached
Palm Island in 1966. This two guys
activated important interventions
reclaiming the swamp,uprooting mangroves,
eliminating mosquitosn and finally
building an hotrel, making by themselves
all the furnishings, and converting the
island into a green garden. More than
8.000 palms were planted. For all this
labor and work, the government rewarded
John Coldwell ensuring a 99 years
island's property. But when he died, in
1998, the hotel was sold and reopened
after a total restyling as a residence (villas
to rent) with common restaurant. |
