BVI HISTORY

From sugar slaves to global tourism

Virgin Islands BRITANNICHE: NORMAN ISLAND

South of Tortola and over the Sir Francis Drake channel; can be reached only by sea. Norman island should be, according to legend, Stevenson "Treasure Island" and tales tell about gold and jewels under seabed and caves. It measures 2,4 kmq. Very interesting are the caves: Treasure point and The Caves are fantastic places for snorkeling.
Upon  Norman island there is only a bar-restaurant:  William Thornton,

very popular and famous among the sailors, housed in a converted old Baltico's merchant ship now transformed into a floating bar in the middle of The Bight harbour.
