There's nothing to say, the baguette was excellent and the croissants even
better.
A girl has just entered the cafe, dressed according to the latest Parisian
fashion, simply breathtaking. She orders, pays in Euros, exchanges a joke in
French with the owner, smiles and walks away. Are we are in Paris? No, we are in
Fort-de-France, Martinique, a piece of France transplanted in the Caribbean.
Sleek and modern, Martinique is the largest of the French Antilles. The cool
sound of the "zouk" music is heard everywhere, in the bars, the streets and in
night-clubs.
Here people think in French, but their hearts remains as Creole as their
traditions and as the plantations of pineapples, bananas, and sugar cane. If we
leave the village we discover that one third of the island is covered with
forests. There are still fishing villages along the coast and unspoiled beaches
as well as long hiking trails in the mountains. A week is not enough to discover
