Grand Turk is very small, just 14 square
kilometers, and it is the most populated island
with 3800 inhabitants. Cockburn Town old houses
are colored by coral and wood in the typical
style of Bermuda and you will find carts pulled
by donkeys on the road. Cockburn Town is the
seat of government since 1766, the capital of
salt industry, the main financial center of the
archipelago. Just outside the city there are the
remains of the NASA missile installations and a
section of the small museum is a memorial to the
memory of the astronauts of Project Mercury,
alighted on the sea, right in front of Grand
Turk in 1962. |
