CAYMAN ISLANDS HISTORY

From sugar slaves to global tourism

CAYMAN ISLANDS: BRAC CAYMAN

In the Gaelic idiom Brac means cliff and in fact the east of the island is occupied by a spectacular limy overhanging about 40 m.high, drilled with caves where the pirate Blackbeard and his crew hid their treasures. The rest of the island is edged by beautiful shell covered white deserted beaches. Cayman Brac is placed 86 miles north-east of Grand Cayman, has an area of 31 kmq., is 19km.long and 2 wide. The chief town is Stake bay, the inhabitants are about 1500.
